About The Position

GBX Consultants, Inc. is seeking a full-time Benefits Advisor to support the Transition Assistance Program at Hunter Arm Airfield. This Service Contract Act position involves conducting VA transition activities, including delivering standardized VA Benefits and Services Briefings, providing one-on-one engagement, pre-separation counseling support, and assisting with military life cycle events, Capstone events, and warm-handover support. The Benefits Advisor will also plan, coordinate, and execute training programs, serving as a senior instructor delivering established curriculum and ensuring adherence to program standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3 years’ equivalent work/military experience in Training, Education, Career Counseling, or Human Resources.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Keen observer of behavior and interpreter of non-verbal language.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Innate sensitivity to unspoken needs and ability to gauge participant comfort.
  • Ability to demonstrate an interactive, dynamic, and energetic training style.
  • Ability to adjust teaching style to meet participant needs.
  • Ability to read applications and government forms.
  • Ability to learn information rapidly.
  • Must successfully complete a standards-based VA Basic Benefits Advisor Training Course, including passing a written test and an oral presentation.
  • Must be able to pass a personal background check.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 50% to other military bases to deliver training.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-hour and one-day courses to transitioning service members covering VA benefits such as education, compensation, pension, vocational rehabilitation and employment, home loan guaranty, insurance, burial benefits, and VA health care.
  • Provide information and demonstrations on VA electronic tools and resources.
  • Set up and break down course rooms, prepare materials for participants, and prepare and secure required electronic equipment.
  • Facilitate individualized discussions with service members to explain available benefits and services.
  • Assist service members in finding answers to questions related to filing VA claims or applications.
  • Refer service members to appropriate VA contacts and assist in making connections.
  • Provide in-person support to the military service Transition Assistance Program (TAP) manager during pre-separation counseling sessions, Capstone events, or to facilitate a warm handover, if requested.
  • Attend training sessions as required by program requirements.
  • Complete required course documentation, including attendance reports, evaluation forms, and other workshop reports.
  • Use a wide range of adult learning and group facilitation techniques, including PowerPoint presentations and interactive/collaborative sessions.
  • Maintain fluency on all benefits and programs in the contract area.
