About The Position

The Benefits and Leave Business Partner plays a vital role within the healthcare organization by supporting and administering benefits and leave programs in accordance with federal, state, and local laws (including FMLA, ADA, and other applicable regulations). This position supports a diverse workforce of healthcare professionals by ensuring consistent, compliant, and compassionate handling of benefits and leave accommodation needs to promote employee well-being and maintain operational continuity. The business partner is expected to perform all duties while upholding and acting in alignment with the organization’s core values, fostering a respectful, ethical, and patient-centered work environment.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree required.
  • 5 years of Human Resources experience, with a minimum of 2 years experience managing employee leave and accommodations.
  • Thorough knowledge of FMLA, ADA, short-term and long-term disability regulations, and healthcare privacy laws such as HIPAA.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially and diplomatically.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret medical documentation and apply complex regulations.
  • Ability to provide accurate and timely correspondence and leave documentation to employees and managers.
  • Proficient in HRIS and leave management systems, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven healthcare setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Healthcare environment preferred, but not required.
  • PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SCP or equivalent certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Administer leave of absence programs for healthcare staff, including FMLA, WPFML, ADA, short-term and long-term disability leaves, military leave, and other statutory and organizational leaves.
  • Advise managers and employees on company leave processes, policy, and procedures orally and in writing.
  • Support administration for the company benefit plans including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, LOA, STD, LTD, Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and 403(b) & 457 information & enrollments.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve or deny leave and accommodation requests consistent with eligibility requirements and legal mandates.
  • Conduct ADA interactive dialog process for medical accommodation requests.
  • Administer worker’s compensation leaves in coordination with manger and employee health.
  • Process new hires, terms, status changes, and other related benefits transactions.
  • Process benefit vendor payments.
  • Serve as an internal contact for managers and employees regarding benefits, including types of leaves of absence.
  • Works with the Benefits Broker, Benefit vendors, Payroll, Finance and IT.
  • Collaborate with employees, healthcare managers, medical providers, and third-party vendors to obtain necessary documentation, assess medical restrictions, and determine appropriate accommodations.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records of leave and accommodation cases and communications, ensuring compliance with healthcare privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Monitor leave and accommodation trends within clinical and non-clinical staff populations to support workforce planning and risk mitigation.
  • Act as a trusted resource for employees and leadership, offering clear communication and support through complex leave and accommodation processes.
  • Gather data for successful completion of surveys and other reports
  • Coordinate with payroll, benefits administration, and disability vendors to ensure seamless leave processing and return-to-work transitions.
  • Assist with audits, investigations, and reporting related to leave compliance and employee accommodations.
  • Stay current on evolving healthcare regulations, employment laws, and industry best practices to proactively update policies and procedures.
  • Consistently act in accordance with the organization’s core values, promoting integrity, respect, compassion, and teamwork in all interactions.
  • Support annual benefit open enrollment including the preparation and distribution of enrollment materials and delivery of benefit information sessions to employees.
  • Support the development of benefits communications and documentation.
  • Using Workday to monitors employees’ benefit eligibility process.
  • Lead and/or support special projects as needed.
