About The Position

The Belt Technician installs new conveyor belts; changes out existing conveyor belts; repairs and splices conveyor belts; performs pulley lagging and pulley changes; and maintains or changes mechanical systems that transfer conveyor belts. The technician follows the instructions and leadership of a Crew Leader or Project Manager to ensure tasks are covered, delays are avoided, and required hazard or task training is completed before work begins.

The role includes maintaining equipment in proper working order, keeping work areas clean and free of hazards, and completing work to the required quality and customer satisfaction standards. The technician also inspects customers’ surrounding equipment to help prevent costly repairs and damage to new material.

Requirements

• Knowledge of surface and underground mining operations.
• Training and certifications as required by federal and state mine safety agencies.
• Knowledge of conveyor belt maintenance, including changing out, splicing, and vulcanizing.
• Ability to read and understand conveyor splice diagrams and blueprints.
• Strong communication skills, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask; proactive and deadline-oriented.

Nice To Haves

• One to three years of experience in conveyor belt maintenance preferred.
• Up to two years of mining experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install new conveyor belts and change out existing conveyor belts.
• Repair and splice conveyor belts, including conveyor belt vulcanizing.
• Perform pulley lagging and change pulleys.
• Maintain or change mechanical systems that transfer conveyor belts.
• Follow the instructions and leadership of the Crew Leader or Project Manager and complete required hazard or task training before work begins.
• Maintain equipment in proper working order and keep work areas clean and free of hazards.
• Perform work according to instructions to achieve quality and customer satisfaction.
• Inspect customers’ surrounding equipment to help prevent costly repairs and damage to new material.
