About The Position

Morning Star Boys' Ranch is hiring Full-Time and Part-Time Youth Counselors / Behavioral Support Staff for their Residential Treatment Program in Spokane, WA. For nearly 70 years, Morning Star has provided residential treatment, behavioral health services, trauma-informed care, and family-centered support for children and adolescents. This role involves helping youth ages 6-16 develop life skills, improve emotional regulation, and build healthy relationships in a therapeutic residential setting. This position is ideal for students seeking valuable experience in fields such as Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Education, Behavioral Health, Child Welfare, Case Management, Youth Programs, and Special Education.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable through company vehicle insurance.
  • Must pass a full FBI Federal and State background check that will include all states lived in.
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND one year of experience working directly with children
  • OR Two years of social service-related education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care, supervision, behavior support, and skill-building services for children and adolescents in a residential treatment setting.
  • Support youth affected by trauma, abuse, neglect, emotional and behavioral challenges, developmental disabilities, and mental health needs.
  • Utilize trauma-informed interventions, behavior management techniques, and relationship-based care to promote safety, stability, and growth.
  • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with Health and Human Services, HIPAA, and other county and State Agencies.
  • Provide adequate supervision to children to ensure safety, including pursuing clients for long distances if necessary.
  • Utilize trauma-informed de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention skills, and behavioral management strategies to maintain safety.
  • Responsible for various written, typed, and verbal communication documentation and reports.
  • Demonstrate professional boundaries through appropriate behavior at all times.
  • Teach daily living skills, emotional regulation, communication skills, personal responsibility, and healthy relationship development.
  • Prepare meals, serve, and document meals.
  • Supervise chores and household maintenance, ensuring household and vehicle appearance.
  • Conduct and document safety checks and emergency drills.
  • Implement CPR and First Aid as needed.
  • Transport clients using a company vehicle.
  • Participate in meetings/training; implement policies and treatment plans.
  • Offer and document medication to the client as prescribed.
