About The Position
The Behavioral Support Specialist plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals by providing tailored behavioral interventions and support. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, or a related field.
- Experience working with individuals with behavioral challenges, preferably in a clinical or community setting.
- Knowledge of behavioral assessment tools and intervention strategies.
- Knowledge of Pennsylvania ODP requirements and Chapter 6400 Regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in behavioral support.
- Strong assessment and analytical skills daily to evaluate client behaviors and develop effective intervention plans.
- Communication skills are essential for collaborating with clients, families, and team members to ensure a unified approach to behavioral support.
- Problem-solving abilities enable the specialist to adapt strategies based on client progress and emerging challenges.
- Organizational skills are critical for maintaining detailed documentation and managing multiple cases simultaneously.
- Empathy and patience are vital interpersonal skills that foster trust and positive relationships with clients, enhancing the overall success of behavioral interventions.
Nice To Haves
- Certification as a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) or Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder.
- Training in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
- Familiarity with data collection software and electronic health records.
- Advanced coursework or training in applied behavior analysis (ABA) or related therapeutic approaches.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive behavioral assessments to identify client needs and challenges.
- Develop and implement individualized behavior support plans based on assessment data and best practices.
- Provide direct support and training to clients to encourage positive behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors.
- Collaborate with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure consistency and effectiveness of interventions.
- Monitor client progress through data collection and analysis, adjusting plans as necessary to meet evolving needs.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services, progress notes, and incident reports.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities to stay current with behavioral support methodologies.
