About The Position

Adara Oaks Manor, a residential care facility, is hiring a passionate and dedicated Behavioral Support Specialist to join their team. This role offers opportunities for on-the-job learning, development, mentoring, and educational support for career advancement. While experience with individuals exhibiting behavioral issues is a plus, it is not a mandatory requirement. The Behavioral Support Specialist is responsible for assessing residents, creating Behavior Support Plans that focus on proactive strategies to replace challenging behaviors with functional, positive ones, and identifying interventions for de-escalation and tolerance of challenging behaviors. These strategies must consider environmental, social, and physical factors affecting behavior. The role also involves developing Positive Behavior Support and Activity plans, training caregivers on implementation, monitoring plan impact, reassessing and revising plans as needed, and providing updated teaching and coaching.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to respond to and manage emergency situations and crisis behavior, which may require physical intervention
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities
  • Communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of residents' needs
  • Ability to use and teach creativity in meeting residents' emotional and physical needs
  • Ability to do many daily tasks via computer, i.e. emails, spreadsheets, etc.
  • High degree of integrity in all areas of conduct related to or reflecting on the organization.
  • Ability to delegate responsibility while maintaining focus of daily activities
  • Knowledge and understanding of state and federal regulations
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a community-based residential program serving individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors
  • You must be a U.S. Citizen and reside within the State of Oregon to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with folks that have behavioral issues is a plus
  • Degree in Special Education, Psychology, or Human Services field preferred
  • Previous DD group home management experience or any facilities meeting the target group requirements preferred
  • At least one or more years of psychology/counseling experience or education preferred

Responsibilities

  • Create a behavior assessment which is started at screening and completed 10 business days after admission
  • Create a behavior support plan dedicated for each individual within 15 days of admission
  • Ensure the behavioral support plan aligns with the individual's service plan, and is explained to the resident in a manner that they can understand
  • Serve as Liaison to OHS Case Managers
  • Provide Individual-specific coaching and group teaching for direct care staff to ensure that direct care staff can implement the strategies defined in each individual's behavior support plan
  • Partner with the Health Services team on behavioral education, and individualized interventions, which will then be communicated through Individual behavior plans to direct care staff
  • Consult with staff and other partners on mitigating behaviors that may place the individual's health and safety at risk to prevent institutionalization
  • Monitor and evaluate individual behavioral plans, reassess, and revise the plans as needed while providing updated education
