Behavior Support Aides are responsible for working closely with children by implementing their customized behavior support plans and fostering a positive and inclusive environment. This role involves providing hands-on support in classrooms when significant behavioral or social-emotional concerns are identified, utilizing trauma-informed practices and Conscious Discipline strategies. The position may also require riding the school bus during transportation, assisting with the setup of the learning environment, and supporting daily routines. Collaboration with the Behavior Support Coach is key to developing behavior strategies. The role also includes participating in staff meetings, trainings, and specialized professional development to enhance skills in trauma-informed practice, Conscious Discipline, and social-emotional development. Ensuring a safe and supportive environment, actively supervising children, following release procedures, and mediating conflicts are also core responsibilities. Familiarity with IFSP's or Behavior Action Plans is necessary, and dual language learners should be fully integrated. Building positive relationships with families through rapport and trust, maintaining confidentiality, and working cooperatively with colleagues are essential. All staff are responsible for the supervision of children.
