The Behavioral Specialist provides ongoing monitoring and interaction with consumers, assessing their behavior daily using a level system and point sheets. This role involves assisting consumers with personal care, medication use, chores, outings, and safety. The specialist will train consumers on basic living skills according to their treatment goals and ensure weekly summaries are completed. A key aspect of this role is recognizing and de-escalating crisis situations, applying specific AHS policies and procedures for interventions like time-out, protective holds, seclusion, or restraint. The Behavioral Specialist will collaborate effectively with the treatment team, model appropriate behavior, and demonstrate child/adolescent specific competencies. They are expected to seek supervision, accept feedback for improvement, actively enhance their skills, and document interactions clearly, concisely, and in a timely manner according to AHS policy. The role requires treating consumers with care, dignity, and compassion, respecting their privacy and confidentiality. The ideal candidate will be pleasant, cooperative, and sensitive to consumer needs, expectations, and individual differences, while maintaining personal values that do not inhibit their ability to care for others. They will also actively participate in Performance Improvement activities and AHS committees as applicable, completing assigned tasks promptly and adhering to all AHS policies and procedures. Attendance at relevant in-services, trainings, and workshops is also expected.
