About The Position

Faculty Mentors have an academic responsibility to aid Learners in achieving their educational objectives using relevant tools, resources, and materials incorporating learner needs and real-world contexts. Faculty Mentors also support course, program, and institutional educational outcomes using proper instructional and assessment strategies. Faculty Mentors must be able to provide effective and responsive academic instruction, counseling, and mentoring verbally and in written form.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree from an institutionally/regionally accredited institution in Clinical psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or other related behavioral science discipline.
  • Active license in good standing (Required): Licensed Clinical Psychologist
  • Ability to analyze and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, and technical material related to the academic discipline, and University policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, and develop syllabi.
  • Ability to effectively present information both written and verbally and respond to questions from learners, Deans, Department Chairs, Academic Advisors, and other University associates.
  • A minimum of three years of online teaching experience and experience with learning management systems is required.
  • Proficiency with Office 365 (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), Microsoft Teams and Zoom required.
  • Must have Internet connectivity supporting streaming audio and videoconferencing meetings.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts (such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions) to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism such as formulas, scientific equations, and graphs.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Canvas LMS is preferred.
  • A strong understanding of parametric and nonparametric quantitative analyses involving R (RStudio, Jamovi, and derivatives), SPSS, PSSP, GlueViz, Orange, GPower, JASP, or other packages is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed Methods is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate courses
  • Serve on doctoral committees as chair/member
  • Assist Dean in creating and/or revising course content, syllabi, and/or related materials as assigned
  • Participate in learner-related activities
  • Engage in curriculum reviews
  • Assess learners
  • Engage in university and programmatic assessment activities
  • Support the university in all accreditation activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean
  • Respond to discussion posts and Learner inquiries within 48 hours
  • Provide substantive feedback within 3 calendar days of due date/submission date for assignments (7 calendar days for doctoral project assignments)
  • Submit final grades within 3 calendar days of the course end date
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge in one’s discipline while enthusiastically facilitating learning spaces enabling students to learn
  • Adhere to the ethical standards and policies of the university while promoting academic integrity, honesty, and rigor
  • Attend university and school events, meetings, and trainings as needed
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with diverse student populations
  • Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills during verbal and/or written communications
  • Teach courses and deliver instruction in any or all programs for the department (BA, MA, MS and PsyD) as assigned
  • Maintain gradebooks and other documentation within Canvas
  • Use CalSouthern email account or Canvas for all email communications
  • Conduct proactive outreach to engage learners to support learner retention and progression through the program of study
  • Actively engage learners in discussion forums
  • Respond to learners given the above timeframes, inclusive of returning phone calls, answering emails, addressing content questions, and assisting learners as needed throughout the course term
  • Supply constructive, substantial, and prompt feedback and assessment of submitted materials
  • Inform Dean of learner concerns, including academic integrity violations, non-responsive or struggling learners, and violations of code of conduct
  • Inform Academic Advisor of learner concerns, including non-responsive or struggling learners
  • Engage in ethical grading practices and submit grades per university policies
  • Mentor and support adjunct mentors
  • Engage in course development, review, and revision processes as assigned
  • Engage in university and programmatic assessment activities
  • Participate in faculty governance/committees and/or university/school committees
  • Engage in scholarly and/or professional research practices
  • Engage in community service activities or demonstrate community engagement
  • Participate in both institutional and programmatic accreditation activities
