About The Position

Provides administrative intervention for students with behavioral problems and ensures school safety in a Day School setting. This role involves addressing behavioral or attendance problems, de-escalating inappropriate behavior, supervising student movement, ensuring safety during emergency procedures, and caring for student health and well-being. The Behavioral Interventionist also monitors student progress, oversees field trips, provides positive reinforcement, communicates with professionals and parents, prepares reports, and assists with safety holds and emergency events. Participation in summer programming is also required.

Requirements

• Previous experience including experience with learning disabled or behaviorally impaired learners required.
• Nationally recognized personal restraint model must be obtained during pre-service training required.
• CPR certification must be obtained during pre-service training required.
• Ability to successfully teach and present behavior skills and material to students.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to youth care.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality.
• Knowledge of the Boys Town Model.
• Ability to adapt responses to situations while maintaining procedural and regulatory integrity.
• Must have and maintain sufficient mental acuity and physical strength, agility, and endurance to perform all job requirements (including stressful situations - physically, mentally, and emotionally) encountered on the job without compromising the health and well-being of self, fellow employees, and youth or families.
• Must have sufficient vision, hearing, speech and the mobility to monitor youth, actively participate in safety procedures, and participate in physical activities with youth.
• The ability to push and pull at least 80 pounds of force, lift up to 50 pounds, carry safely up to 30 pounds, as well as the ability to reach overhead, bend, and squat with ease.

Responsibilities

• Provides administrative intervention for students utilizing a behavioral approach to promote learning.
• Receives students from classrooms or office whenever necessary to address behavioral or attendance problems and de-escalates inappropriate behavior utilizing prescribed administrative intervention procedures.
• Supervises hallways and areas of student movement during class breaks and before and after school, mediation essays, and other office consequences.
• Ensures safety by supervising fire drills and other school emergency procedures.
• Assumes responsibility for the academic and social skills growth of each student; cares for student health and well-being during the school day.
• Monitors student progress, oversees field trips, and provides positive reinforcement to students to foster and maintain improvements in behavior.
• Communicates with other professionals regarding individual student needs and progress; provides consultation to parents or guardians, and school staff regarding student behavior and consequences.
• Prepares reports and office referrals.
• Contacts youth safety audit after holds.
• Assists and monitors safety holds.
• Monitors students who leave location and contact the appropriate authorities to notify of leaving the area.
• Communicates and collaborates with administrators or authorities during emergency events.
• Participates in Summer Programming to include summer school, summer enrichment and other programs as assigned by Principal.
• Serves as a role model in carrying out activities and behaviors that reflect the values and principles of the Boys Town mission.
