About The Position

Integrity Educational Services (IES) is seeking a Full-Time Behavior Interventionist to serve Lighthouse Academy's Muskegon Community Building. IES is the non-profit educational service provider for Lighthouse Academy. Lighthouse Academy serves youth in residential programming (detention centers and residential treatment programs) and community-based programs (including day treatment programs). They serve youth who are court-affiliated, expelled, long-term suspended, or have intensive special education needs. This role is for individuals passionate about education, driven by values, and dedicated to serving at-risk youth.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree Required
  • One to two years of experience within an educational or youth service program, preferably working with troubled youth in a residential setting; or any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft and/or Google applications and/or willingness to learn needed computer skills specific to this position.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to do simple computations, calculate percentages, and use a calculator.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization.
  • Must pass criminal history records search, physical and drug screen, if required.
  • Must participate in and complete annual training, Professional Development, and various other training as deemed appropriate for position.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters of Social Work (LMSW or MSW) degree preferred but not required.
  • LMSW, MSW, LLP, LPC, BCBA, or Residential experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists and supports day-to-day instructional and behavioral interventions.
  • Provides positive redirection and support to students exhibiting inappropriate behavior.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers, facility staff, outside agencies, families, and others to create and implement behavior intervention plans.
  • Coordinates activities and communicates with the school's responsibility thinking advisor.
  • Coordinates and maintains a productive daily schedule for reports, instructional activities, and other duties.
  • Participates as a positive team member to enhance and share knowledge and skills.
  • Manages advanced disciplinary issues and secures assistance from appropriate staff.
  • Provides one-on-one tutoring and computer lab assistance.
  • Participates in the preparation of student educational development plans.
  • Supervises students in accordance with operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and security.
  • Completes/reviews reports and logs, including Incident Report forms.
  • Instructs students in the general care and maintenance of school and equipment.
  • Supervises the safe handling of program property and equipment.
  • Adheres to all contract and state educational guidelines.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of school policies and procedures.
  • Supports all instructional activities with the classroom teacher.
  • Participates in the planning and direction of school operations.
  • Assists in establishing policies and procedures for crisis management.
  • Attends school-related activities, including field trips, family dinners, school events, and conferences.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
