The purpose of a behavioral health therapist is to assess, diagnose and treat individuals using individual, family, couples and/or group counseling and make informed, appropriate referrals in order to assist individuals in achieving mutually agreed upon goals, promoting recovery and leading to a more satisfying, emotionally and socially healthy life. Providers work with individuals experiencing behavioral health concerns, including substance use, and support recovery-oriented services as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering whole‑person care.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree plus a Master Degree in counseling required.
  • LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or In-Training licenses (LPC-IT, LMFT-IT, and APSW) required in Wisconsin.
  • Specific training/certifications may be required for certain types of therapy/assessment.
  • Employees will not work outside of their scope of education and training.
  • Candidates must reside within NorthLakes' service area at the time of hire and maintain residency throughout employment.
  • All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and references.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Record Systems Database software and Word Processing software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessments, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions, discharge planning, and consultation.
  • Interview clients, review records, and collaborate with other professionals to gather information relevant to treatment.
  • Works with people presenting with psychological or emotional problems such as stress, substance abuse, or family situations.
  • If trained and certified, selects and administers various tests such as psychological tests, personality inventories, and intelligence quotient tests, to identify behavioral or personality traits and intelligence levels, and records results.
  • If trained and certified, reviews results of tests to evaluate client needs.
  • Develop individualized therapeutic treatment plans.
  • Plans and administers therapeutic treatment such as behavior modification and stress management therapy to assist patients in controlling disorders and other problems.
  • Provide therapeutic treatment in individual, family, couples or group settings.
  • Discusses progress toward mutually established therapeutic goals with patients to evaluate success of therapy, and adapts treatment as needed.
  • Consults with medical doctor or other specialists concerning treatment plan and amends plan as directed.
  • Conducts therapy sessions.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions as needed to support coordinated care with medical teams, care coordinators, peer specialists, and community health workers.
  • Plans and administers therapeutic treatment by telephonic/ telehealth methodologies as indicated by patient needs and state guidelines.
  • Provide education and support to patients and families, including information about recovery principles, relapse prevention, and available community supports.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate groups focused on skill building, mental health, or recovery-oriented topics, depending on program needs.
  • Refer patients to additional supports such as medical evaluation, social services, employment resources, and recovery-oriented community programs.
  • Complete documentation in the Electronic Health Record professionally and in a timely manner.
  • Participates in behavioral health quality improvement programs.
  • Appropriate use of PPE/infection control protocols when providing treatment to patients.
  • Other duties as assigned.
