Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Behavioral Health Technician training program or relevant certification preferred.
  • Experience in mental health settings or working with individuals with behavioral health needs.
  • Basic knowledge of clinical documentation standards and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ability to perform clinical assessments and support discharge planning processes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and clinical teams.
  • Clinical documentation and maintaining accurate records are essential for ensuring continuity and quality of patient care, allowing the team to track progress and adjust treatment plans effectively.
  • Crisis management and crisis intervention skills are used daily to respond promptly and safely to behavioral emergencies, helping to stabilize patients and prevent harm.
  • Clinical assessments enable the technician to gather vital information about patient status, which informs treatment decisions and discharge planning.
  • Knowledge of mental health conditions and patient care techniques supports compassionate and effective interaction with individuals experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in psychology, social work, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Certification in Crisis Intervention or Mental Health First Aid.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbances (SED).
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and advanced clinical documentation software.
  • Training in trauma-informed care and evidence-based behavioral health interventions.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and trauma-informed care enhance the technician’s ability to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered support in a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and support to individuals with mental health and severe emotional disturbances (SED).
  • Conduct clinical assessments and assist in the development and implementation of individualized treatment and discharge plans.
  • Monitor patient behavior and intervene during crises to ensure safety and de-escalate potentially harmful situations.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, and treatment updates.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, therapists, and social workers, to coordinate patient care and support recovery goals.
