About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals struggling with mental health and/or substance abuse issues. Under the direction of the Program Director and/or Center Coordinator, the BHT provides comprehensive support and coordination of care throughout the addiction recovery process. BHT’s Duties may consist of group therapy facilitation, case management, outdoor activities, peer support or intake.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or bachelor's degree in a field related to behavioral health; OR Has a bachelor's degree and at least one year of full time behavioral health work experience; OR Has as associate's degree and at least two years of full time behavioral health work experience; OR Has a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma and a combination of education in a field related to behavioral health and full time behavioral health work experience totaling at least two years; OR Is licensed a practical nurse, according to A.R.S Title 32, Chapter 15, with at least three years of full time behavioral health work experience; OR has a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma at least four years of full time behavioral health work experience.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and critical thinking skills to prioritize client needs.
  • Current Driver’s License required
  • CPR certification required (or become certified within 30 days of hire)

  • Twenty-One Years or Older
  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum Experience: One (1) year of professional driving experience, and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to operate a 15-seat passenger van
  • Proficiency in using GPS and navigation applications
  • Must pass a background check, pre-employment drug screening, and MVD check
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices, defensive driving, and vehicle maintenance basics.
  • Knowledge of the local service area and surrounding regions.
  • Knowledge of client service principles in a behavioral health environment.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and client confidentiality requirements.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during stressful or emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of basic documentation and record-keeping requirements.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate group therapy sessions in the classroom or in the field.
  • Administering Drug Screens (UA’s, swab, and breathalyzer).
  • Searching clients’ dorms, property, and individual clients
  • All other duties as assigned to include Case Management, Intake, Scribe, and Outdoor Recreation
  • Schedule and/or lead service projects
  • Assist with planning, scheduling, and attending outdoor and overnight activities
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient progress
  • Ensure group therapy sessions are aligned with client treatment plans.
  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all clients.
  • Maintain proper documentation of client progress including overall progress, body language, participation, and engagement
  • Participate in program development and evaluation.
  • Coordinate wellness checks, doctor appointments, and other necessary services to ensure continuity of care for clients.
  • Participate in admissions processes, including intake assessments and orientation, ensuring clients feel supported from the start.
  • Assist clients through the discharge process, providing resources and support to facilitate a smooth transition to independent living.
  • Document critical steps and progress within the recovery program, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Address the day-to-day needs of clients, offering support and ensuring their well-being throughout their recovery journey.
  • Be sensitive, respectful, and personable when interacting with clients, building a compassionate and supportive environment.
  • Empower clients by encouraging self-reliance and helping them develop life skills to achieve self-sufficiency.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to regularly assess clients' progress, adjust individualized plans, and provide ongoing support.
  • Safely transports clients to and from medical appointments, court hearings, and scheduled activities, ensuring punctuality and comfort.
  • Demonstrates safe vehicle operation including proper speed control, lane discipline, and defensive driving techniques.
  • Utilizes GPS and local knowledge to determine the most efficient routes, adjusting for traffic conditions.
  • Provides assistance to clients entering and exiting the vehicle when appropriate; demonstrates patience and professionalism.
  • Maintains a clean and well-functioning vehicle, conducting regular inspections and coordinating necessary maintenance.
  • Maintains accurate records of trips including mileage, destinations, addresses, distances, and any incidents or delays.
  • Maintains proper documentation from appointments and ensures submission according to agency policy and accurate according to daily trip log and A.A.C. R9-22-211 NEMT requirements.
  • Communicates clearly with all clients, managing interactions with tact, diplomacy, and professionalism.
  • Uses correct terminology and follows proper protocols including greeting clients at point of service.
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries and professionalism during all client interactions.
  • Adheres to HIPAA and all federal, state, and BTC protocols protecting client rights and privacy.
  • Follows all local traffic laws and agency transportation safety policies.
  • Identifies and diffuses conflicts during transport, maintaining self-control and objectivity.
  • Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures for accidents, medical emergencies, or unsafe situations during transport.
  • Contacts emergency services and follows reporting protocols as needed.
  • Understands procedures for client medical or behavioral emergencies during transport.
  • Coordinates with the client services team to confirm appointments and address special transportation needs.
