About The Position

Center for Change is seeking a part-time female care technicians to assist the clinical and nursing staff in providing secure, safe, and supportive treatment to inpatients suffering from an eating disorder. Center for Change is a 24-hour healthcare facility with full and part-time staff who cover regularly scheduled shifts. This is an excellent entry-level position for individuals who would like to gain experience in the mental health field. As a member of the direct care staff staff, hours will vary from a minimum of 8 hours and up to 40 hours per week, but on average fall in the range of 16 to 24 hours per week. Current positions available include weekend shifts. All Behavioral Health Techs are required to work some weekend shifts in their schedule or on-call. Weekend shifts are 8 hours in duration and occur during the time frame of Friday 2:00 pm to Monday 6:00 am. On-call Care Techs may be called in to fill a variety of shifts around the clock (6:00 AM to 2:00 PM; 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM; 6:00 PM - 2:00 AM or 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM), depending on staffing needs and when other staff are ill, on vacation, or otherwise unable to fill shifts. On-call staff need to be available to have 2-3 on-call days per week - once during the week for a day or night shift and a rotation of Saturdays and Sundays.

Requirements

  • Due to the nature of treatment and the population served there is a bona fide occupational qualification that the applicant be female.
  • Care Techs are required to transport patients using company vehicles.
  • To qualify to drive company vehicles Care Techs must consent to a driving record check, and must: be at least 21 years of age; have a valid driver license; have no more than 2 at-fault accidents in the past three (3) years; have no more than 3 moving violations during the past three (3) years; and, have NO driving while intoxicated (DWI) or driving under the influence (DUI) convictions.
  • Because the Center specializes in the treatment of eating disorders it is important that staff model healthy attitudes and behaviors about food.
  • For this reason direct care staff are required to eat with the patients and model an intuitive relationship with food.
  • This includes dishing appropriate portions of everything served with the meal, eating a variety of foods until you are moderately full and treating all foods with the same moral value.
  • You will be asked to eat all food groups: meats, poultry, fish, fruits, dairy products, desserts etc.

Responsibilities

  • Care techs work closely with patients at the Center.
  • They provide daily support and assistance with activities of daily living and are expected to mentor healthy attitudes and behaviors.
  • Care techs eat meals and snacks with the patients to model an intuitive relationship with food and monitor patients during these times.
  • Care techs also join in a variety of experiential therapies and groups such as recreational therapy, movement therapies, art therapy, music therapy, and other group therapies such as body-image and 12-step.
  • Care techs work directly with patients in goal setting and follow up, and are responsible to enforce program rules and encourage patients in finding their own coping skills.
