About The Position

The incumbent must be a customer service professional who can work in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Things happen quickly and continuously in this position, and the incumbent will find the need to move from one task to another without much time in between or juggling multiple duties at the same time. As a Behavioral Health Specialist, (at the full performance level) you will perform the following duties: Serve as a behavioral health professional; Provide essential behavioral assessment, counseling and referral services; Provide confidential resiliency behavioral, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual support; Facilitate the well-being of agency employees and eligible family members who may be facing life challenges; Identify the behavioral health need of the employee and deliver effective support. The Clinician Regions are as follows: Northeast Clinician: Washington, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Newark, & Boston Southeast Clinician: Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Nashville, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville Southwest Clinician: Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, Phoenix, Tucson, Albuquerque, Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Waco.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen.
  • Males born after 12/31/59 must certify registration with Selective Service.
  • Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade in the Federal service.
  • Degree: Degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
  • OR Combination of education and experience provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
  • OR Four years of appropriate experience demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
  • One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: planning and delivering program specific training; Analyzing complex data to produce comprehensive reports; AND Working with social service delivery systems, including establishing agreements with individual agencies.
  • One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: Conducting behavioral assessments; Providing critical counseling and referral services; Consulting with licensed psychologists, peer support counselors, faith-based clergy, or other health care professionals; Documenting the results of behavioral assessments and recommendations via oral, written, and electronic means.
  • Valid and current license to conduct mental health treatment/counseling such as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychologist (LP), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist (LCMFT) or equivalent.
