About The Position

The Behavioral Health Peer Specialist provides patient-centered services, including individual and group peer support counseling. As an integral member of the care team, the Peer Specialist empowers patients to achieve their behavioral health recovery goals while promoting overall health, wellness, and quality of life.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • BLS American Heart E-Card (BLS AHA ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
  • BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
  • BLS Certification Grace (BLS GRACE) - Employee Grace Period for Essential Credential (GRACE)
  • BLS Cert Red Cross (BLS RC) - Red Cross (RED CROSS)
  • Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) - Florida Certification Board (FCB)
  • Driver License Num (DRIVER LIC) - Department of Motor Vehicles
  • A minimum of one (1) year of documented related experience in mental health, substance use, or peer support settings. Experience may be fulfilled through paid employment, volunteer service, peer support training programs, or a combination thereof.
  • Equivalent experience in lived experience with demonstrated peer support engagement may be considered.
  • Must include lived experience of recovery from mental health or substance use disorders.
  • Complete WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) training within 6 months of hire.
  • Must obtain the Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) designation within 18 months of hire.
  • Automobile Insurance (AUTO INS) - Automobile Insurance (AUTO INS), if applicable
  • BLS Certification Grace (BLS GRACE) - Employee Grace Period for Essential Credential (GRACE) - 6 months within hire

  • Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Other skills include time-management skills, knowledge of community resources and strong written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual peer mentoring and/or recovery coaching.
  • Participates in outreach and aftercare recovery activities.
  • Contributes to new member and renewal member campaigns.
