Psychiatric Assessment and Referral Services (PARS) clinicians provide telephone and face-to-face crisis intervention and psychiatric triage. They conduct psychiatric assessments covering the history of present illness, safety and risk, family, developmental, social and medical history, mental status, and psychiatric diagnosis. In consultation with the covering psychiatrist, they determine an initial treatment plan, including level of care. They also provide grief and other behavioral health consultations requested by medical-floor staff, develop community resources and referrals, and coordinate the assessment and admission process with behavioral health nursing, psychiatry, Emergency Department staff, and other providers. When patients need alternative services, clinicians arrange appropriate dispositions, such as transfers to other facilities or intake appointments. PARS clinicians assess and triage patients presenting with behavioral health concerns at any of six Emergency Departments in the hospital network. They work collaboratively across disciplines and consult with medical-floor patients who have acute behavioral health needs or have experienced significant loss or trauma. The role is based at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, which has a psychiatric residency program in partnership with Tufts University and offers opportunities for ongoing learning and collaboration. The role requires a bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field. One to three years of relevant work experience is preferred. Basic Cardiac Life Support and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of the employment start date.
