About The Position

Arcetyp LLC is seeking a Behavioral Health Optimization Program (BHOP) Clinical Social Worker for an onsite position in Misawa, Aomori, Japan. This role involves providing clinical social work services within a military healthcare setting, potentially in a specialty mental health clinic or a patient-centered medical home. The social worker will apply psychological procedures and techniques for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological disorders, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy, as well as alcohol and drug treatment evaluations. The position requires maintaining accurate patient records, participating in military-specific training, and adhering to all installation policies and procedures. A key aspect of the role is providing brief cognitive/behavioral interventions in primary care under the Air Force consultation model, managing appointments efficiently, and using a biopsychosocial approach. The social worker will also offer classes, provide feedback to primary care managers, and participate in team efforts to develop clinical pathways. Case management, medication referrals, and ensuring patient safety and rights are also integral parts of the job. The role requires compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and military regulations and policies.

Requirements

  • Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree from a graduate school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
  • Minimum of two (2) years within the past five (5) years in the independent practice of clinical social work in a mental health setting working with an adult population, or with children and teens if specifically working with that population.
  • TOEIC score of at least 860 or equivalent certificate is required for non-native English speakers.
  • Current, unrestricted clinical license to independently practice social work in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Island.
  • Maintain an active license during the course of this contract.
  • Experience and demonstrated competence with Electronic Medical Records.
  • Basic knowledge of psychopharmacological agents.
  • Ability to adhere to and comply with the Department of the Navy, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, and local instructions and notices.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently and maintain good communication skills with patients and other health care personnel.
  • Physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and capable of performing all services required under the task order.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must maintain currency of continuing medical education, certification(s), health requirements, basic Life Support (BLS)/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and initial/annual training completion records.
  • Shall be clearly identifiable while on duty with a Contractor nametag and facility badge.
  • While on duty, shall be neat and clean, well-groomed, and dressed appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Function in a specialty mental health clinic or patient-centered medical home (PCMH) as a behavioral health consultant (BHC) and/or Behavioral Health Care Facilitator (BHCF).
  • Apply psychological procedures and techniques, including interviewing, behavioral assessment, and evidenced-based therapies, in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological and neuropsychological disorders.
  • Provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy, and couples therapy, and alcohol and drug treatment evaluations.
  • Maintain satisfactory customer service and patient care relationships.
  • Consult with medical personnel, legal authorities, military commanders, and school districts, as required.
  • Maintain accurate and current notes in Mental Health records, inpatient medical records, and electronic medical records of all patients seen, and produce reports of evaluation and/or treatment, as required.
  • Participate in military-specific training (e.g., security clearances, Air Force Guide to Managing Suicidal Behavior, repost deployment screening, PTSD and combat stress).
  • Participate in and successfully complete Air Force provided Phase I and Phase II BHC training.
  • Remain aware of and abide by all policies, rules, and laws for the training location(s), including personnel and vehicle installation access, security, and safety.
  • Provide brief (typically no more than four appointments) cognitive/behavioral interventions in primary care under the Air Force consultation model.
  • Efficiently manage appointments, including confirming and clarifying consultation issues, obtaining initial patient engagement, completing focused assessments, and conducting summary and formulation.
  • Use a biopsychosocial approach to assessment, intervention, and primary care team feedback.
  • Use evidence-based interventions appropriate for a primary care setting.
  • Base interventions on measurable, functional outcomes and symptoms reduction that are collaboratively developed with the patient.
  • Teach patient self-management skills as a primary strategy to decrease symptoms and improve function.
  • Stay on time when conducting consecutive appointments.
  • Use follow-up intervals that are appropriate for a primary care setting.
  • Provide interventions for most common mental health and medical conditions in primary care, recommending specialty mental health care only when indicated.
  • Offer a minimum of one class per quarter with a format appropriate for primary care.
  • Clearly and concisely provide assessment results and feedback to PCMs in 3 minutes or less and include specific recommendations for PCM’s course of action with a patient.
  • Deliver brief presentations/trainings to primary care team members regarding behavioral health issues and BHC services.
  • Participate in team efforts to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise clinical pathway programs needed in the clinic.
  • Consults with medical personnel, legal authorities, and military commanders as required.
  • Contact referred patients to assess treatment adherence.
  • Use validated symptom inventories to assess current symptom severity.
  • Provide patients with education regarding their mental health condition and treatment regimen.
  • Maintain patient information in a patient registry through AHLTA (Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application).
  • Maintain accurate and current notes in the electronic medical records of all patients contacted for review by the managing physician.
  • Routinely staff difficult cases with the referring provider, behavioral health consultant, and/or psychiatry consultant.
  • Perform case management functions, staffing with other providers, medication referrals, and other referrals as needed.
  • Practice aseptic techniques as necessary; comply with infection control guidelines.
  • Function with an awareness and application of safety procedures.
  • Apply an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strive to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.
  • Exercise awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others' rights.
  • Maintain an awareness of responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
  • Maintain DoD email account as directed by government supervisor.
  • Exercise appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities.
  • Comply with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, Department of Defense, Department of Navy, Bureau of Medicine, and Surgery, and MTF instructions and policies.
