About The Position

The Behavioral Health Counselor will conduct patient assessments, implement therapeutic interventions, complete individualized treatment plans, provide patient education, and complete referrals as necessary. This role involves conducting patient screenings, biopsychosocial assessments, and diagnostic evaluations to identify needs and assign appropriate DSM/ICD diagnoses. The counselor will also assess and address barriers to care, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to support patient access to medical and behavioral health services. Developing, implementing, and managing individualized treatment plans, providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions, and crisis support are key responsibilities. Additionally, the role includes coordinating referrals, case conferences, and community resources to ensure continuity of care and patient engagement in treatment. Maintaining accurate clinical documentation, confidential records, and required reports, while participating in training, policy compliance, and behavioral health education initiatives, is also essential.

Requirements

  • Active LCSW with Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners or LPC with Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners is required.
  • Master’s degree in social work or master’s degree in counseling is required.
  • BLS for healthcare provider is required.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year of paid post-degree experience in clinical experience providing mental health and substance use disorder services is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with evidence-based practices, including trauma informed care framework.
  • Knowledge and experience with developmental disabilities and children.
  • Knowledge and experience working with co-occurring disorders (mental health and substance use) is preferred.
