About The Position

The Behavioral Health Counselor & Wellness Coordinator is responsible for providing quality, ethical, student-centered counseling services and coordinating wellness initiatives consistent with the mission of Laredo College and Student Health Services & Wellness. The employee is expected to maintain professional licensure, comply with applicable laws, regulations, ethical standards, grant requirements, and College policies; protect student confidentiality; maintain accurate documentation; and communicate significant clinical, operational, grant-related, or programmatic concerns to the Director of Student Health Services & Wellness. The employee is accountable for supporting the successful implementation, documentation, and evaluation of assigned wellness and grant-funded initiatives and for meeting established program goals, deadlines, and deliverables.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited university in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counselor education, social work, marriage and family, or other closely related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of full-time work experience.
  • Must possess one of the following active professional licenses, as permitted by College policy and applicable requirements: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
  • License must remain active and in good standing throughout employment.
  • Must meet all applicable Texas licensing requirements and College employment requirements.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Must have a valid TX Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing counseling services and supervising or supporting graduate counseling interns or practicum students in a college or university setting.
  • Experience coordinating wellness, prevention, or mental health programs.
  • LPC-S credential

Responsibilities

  • Provides brief, solution-focused counseling and professional therapeutic services to currently enrolled Laredo College students involving the application of mental health, psychotherapeutic, and human development principles to facilitate adjustment and personal development.
  • Provides individual and group counseling services, as appropriate to the scope of practice, College policies, and applicable professional requirements.
  • Provides emergency crisis intervention services.
  • Maintains timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by department policies and procedures.
  • Receives and responds to referrals from students, faculty, staff, and others.
  • Conducts risk assessments and interventions for students experiencing emotional or behavioral crises and makes appropriate referrals as needed.
  • Consults, coordinates, collaborates, and refers students to other health professionals and resources on and off campus.
  • May serve as a designated site contact, supervisor, or preceptor for graduate counseling interns and provide appropriate clinical guidance, consultation, and feedback within the scope of the position and applicable professional requirements.
  • Attends and participates in case staffing meetings.
  • Adheres to ethical and legal requirements of the applicable professional licensing board.
  • Provides and supports outreach and prevention activities, including but not limited to suicide prevention and campus crisis response.
  • Maintains and updates professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops, conferences, and service on special committees.
  • Develops treatment plans, in accordance with established standards and based on assessment, in conjunction with students to identify goals, interventions, necessary supports, and referral services.
  • Attends and participates in departmental and division meetings and staff development programs as assigned.
  • May be required to work outside regular working hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, as needed to support College programs, student events, outreach activities, grant requirements, or other departmental activities.
  • May be required to travel locally, regionally, and occasionally outside the Laredo area in support of grant-funded initiatives, professional development, conferences, and more.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Health Services & Wellness.
  • Coordinates, implements, and evaluates student wellness programs and initiatives through Student Health Services & Wellness.
  • Develops and supports wellness programming focused on mental health, stress management, resilience, healthy relationships, suicide prevention, emotional wellness, and related topics through workshops, presentations, outreach, awareness campaigns, and educational activities.
  • Assists with maintaining the annual wellness programming calendar and identifies emerging wellness needs to recommend appropriate programs, resources, and interventions.
  • Assists the Director with program development, implementation, data collection, evaluation, and grant-related initiatives.
  • Participates in professional development, conferences, trainings, workshops, and meetings related to counseling, wellness, and the mission of Student Health Services & Wellness.
