About The Position

We are seeking motivated and compassionate emerging professionals to join our team as Behavioral Health Clinician Interns. This internship offers an opportunity to work in an integrated behavioral health setting supporting individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. As an intern, you will gain real-world clinical experience providing direct services under the supervision of licensed professionals. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team committed to evidence-based care, professional development, and meaningful community impact. Interns will participate in patient assessment, treatment planning, case management, diagnosing patients, individual and group counseling, etc., while receiving ongoing supervision and clinical training. We are dedicated to helping you develop the clinical skills, ethical foundation, and confidence needed to succeed in the behavioral health field. Please be aware that all interns must pass a drug screening that includes testing for marijuana, as well as a comprehensive background check and a TB test.

Requirements

  • Students enrolled in a master’s program and/or doctoral degree (counseling, social work, psychology, etc.)
  • Must be able to commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week
  • Familiarity with the ASAM level-of-care criteria is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Solid communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including electronic records, is required.
  • CPR and first-aid certification (the agency pays for initial training and renewals).
  • Valid driver's license and insurability.

Nice To Haves

  • Applicants for the internship program have already completed coursework related to therapeutic interventions, group counseling, and assessment/diagnosis of mental health conditions.
  • This internship is best for individuals in their second year of graduate school or recently graduated and seeking pre-licensed supervised experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient assessments and gather all necessary information to determine the appropriate level of care.
  • Conduct groups, family, and individual counseling sessions and potentially lead psycho-educational or family groups.
  • Administering assessments to evaluate patient needs.
  • Complete documentation promptly in accordance with CTP clinical procedures.
  • Regularly report patient progress to the supervisor.
  • Coordinate and refer patients to community-based supportive services to supplement their treatment and counseling.
  • Must travel to outlying sites to provide training and treatment to the patient.
  • May maintain an OTP caseload and conduct annual updates, including CO Client Assessment Record (CCAR), Drug/Alcohol Coordinated Data System (DACODS), and other relevant assessments.
