About The Position

The Behavioral Health Clinician II (BHC II) provides screening, consultation, behavioral interventions, referrals, counseling, and therapy to patients in an integrated medical and behavioral health setting. The clinician makes clinical recommendations and refers patients to appropriate levels of care in a team-based setting. The position requires a California-licensed LCSW or LMFT, a strong team player, and a self-starter. The BHC II provides mental health and substance use assessments and treatment to patients across multiple sites, promoting self-management and empowering patients and families to achieve wellness and independence. Reporting to the Director of Re-Entry Services, the BHC II is embedded within the Re-Entry Services team and serves justice-impacted individuals throughout Los Angeles County and surrounding communities. The clinician maintains an active patient caseload and collaborates with Re-Entry case managers through case consultation, treatment planning, and clinical guidance to provide coordinated, trauma-informed, patient-centered care. The role facilitates access to behavioral health services, substance use treatment, and community resources, supporting successful community reintegration while meeting clinical, licensing, and funding requirements.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Psychology, or another discipline acceptable toward therapist licensure by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
At least 2 years of experience providing direct mental health services and supports in an integrated health setting.
Licensed with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an LCSW or LMFT.
Strong team player and self-starter.

Responsibilities

Provide assessment, evaluation, and mental health treatment.
Provide individual and group therapy to promote overall wellness in accordance with treatment plans.
Consult with medical providers about psychosocial issues patients bring to medical appointments.
Triage urgent and routine referrals from medical providers and program staff.
Collaborate with staff and providers to schedule patients for intake.
Participate in regular case conferences with program staff and primary care departments.
Develop client-centered treatment plans for assigned clients.
Link clients to case management, advocacy, medication monitoring, emergency services, insurance companies, education referrals, and other agencies as appropriate.
Collaborate with primary care, prescribing physicians, emergency services, program staff, and other agencies as appropriate regarding each client.
Prepare case presentations for the multidisciplinary team when indicated.
Provide feedback to medical providers and program staff about referred patients.
Participate in Integrated Behavioral Health clinical, staff, and other assigned meetings.
Participate in scheduled supervision with clinical and administrative supervisors.
Collaborate with the Re-Entry Services team to provide coordinated, trauma-informed, patient-centered care for justice-impacted individuals.
Maintain professional licensure and comply with medical record-keeping requirements for the assigned caseload.
Meet or exceed productivity objectives.
Submit required EHR records promptly, including visit notes, billing paperwork, and prior authorizations.
Schedule work hours and days in accordance with operational needs.
Contribute to data collection, audits, reporting, and other information-gathering activities supporting program evaluation, funding, compliance, and development.
