About The Position

The Behavioral Health Aide (BHA) provides support and care to individuals facing mental health, behavioral, or emotional challenges. Working under the supervision of licensed professionals, the BHA assists with implementing care plans, facilitating therapeutic activities, and supporting clients in achieving their treatment goals. They also educate clients and families on coping strategies, monitor progress, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care. This role requires empathy, cultural sensitivity, and strong interpersonal skills to foster a supportive environment for clients.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or have HS equivalent.
  • Specialized training and/or certification in mental health services or related field as required in order to meet requirements for billable services and/or adjunctive services, or obtain by taking the first available SOC training course provided by ODMHSAS after hire.
  • Must have a strong commitment to the right and ability of each person served to live in normal community residences; and have access to helpful, adequate, competent, and continuous supports and services.
  • Knowledge in working with disruptive behaviors in children and families.
  • Knowledge in working with children and systems.
  • Knowledge in working with school systems and the disruptive child and their families.
  • Knowledge in how to craft skill building techniques that can be generalized into daily living.
  • Knowledge in working with individuals with medical diagnosis.
  • Ability to work well under pressure meeting deadlines with efficiency and consistency while maintaining a balance between good physical and mental health and the job requirements.
  • Exhibit ability to effectively organize and plan field-work, schedule to best service and maximize the needs of consumers, i.e. arranging home based meetings, agency meetings, and care coordinator meetings.
  • Ability to see, hear and speak clearly to interact with staff, consumers, family members, administration and the community, both in person and on the telephone.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and access non-handicapped equipped residences/facilities.
  • ODMHSAS Case Manager I Certification, completed within 90 days of eligibility.
  • Behavioral Health Aide Certification Required.
  • Wellness Coach Certification Required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver License and satisfactory driving record to use agency and/or personal automobile to travel to locations other than primary office and/or for the transportation of clients.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with inter-disciplinary team to develop behavioral management plan.
  • Implement a plan and course of action based on individual needs of the child.
  • Implement a behavioral management plan that includes communication, self-help, safety, substance use decisions, and daily living skills.
  • Assist child/adolescent by redirection and life skills remedial training in home, school or community setting.
  • Assist child/adolescent by redirection and social development training in home, school or community setting.
  • With the inter-disciplinary team, identify available resources to help reduce psychiatric impairment or prevent out of home/school placement.
  • With the inter-disciplinary team, identify available resources to help reduce or prevent school suspension.
  • Assist in the strengths assessment and wrap plan development.
  • Identify needs of the child/adolescent and help the families get these needs met through family and community sources first.
  • Engages clients and families in wellness process.
  • Provides various wellness programs.
  • Conducts a variety of wellness activities and groups.
  • Coaches on wellness goals in comprehensive care plan.
