About The Position

The University of Washington Autism Center (UWAC) has an outstanding opportunity for a Behavior Technician (BT) to join their team. Reporting to a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the Behavior Technician is responsible for delivering direct, individualized intervention services to young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a clinic-based setting. This role supports the implementation of evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) treatment plans, contributes to skill development and behavior improvement, and plays a vital role in supporting children and families while maintaining UW Autism Center clinical standards and practices. This position is located at the UW Tacoma Campus and is an in-person, clinic-based role.

Requirements

  • Two years of college-level coursework in a relevant academic field and two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant, or equivalent education and/or experience
  • Ability and willingness to interact with young children in a spontaneous and creative manner
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with parents, children, and professionals
  • Experience working with toddler-, preschool-, or elementary-aged children
  • Ability to provide physical care, including moving young children (12–48 months), diapering, and toilet training as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Behavior Technician (CBT) credential through the Washington State Department of Health
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, human/child development, or a related field
  • Training or experience with early intensive behavioral intervention, applied behavior analysis, early intervention, developmental psychology, or special education
  • Experience working directly with children and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Willingness to commit to the position for at least 12 months to support continuity of care

Responsibilities

  • Work one-on-one with children ages 12 months to 6 years and their parents
  • Implement intervention protocols developed by a BCBA to increase skills and reduce problem behaviors
  • Provide responsible, positive, and sensitive care during therapy
  • Apply ABA principles and tailor intervention procedures to individual needs and interests
  • Assist with curriculum-based assessments as needed
  • Work under close supervision of a master’s-level BCBA
  • Maintain therapy spaces that are organized, clean, and child-proof
  • Follow sanitizing, cleaning, and COVID-19 precaution protocols
  • Set up therapeutic materials before sessions and clean up after sessions
  • Comply with snack, diapering, and toileting procedures to ensure hygiene and safety
  • Create and prepare picture cards, books, and visual supports
  • Develop motivation charts, token boards, PECS icons, visual schedules, and play materials
  • Collect and accurately record intervention data during therapy sessions
  • Maintain computer and paper records
  • Graph data and complete treatment notes in accordance with clinic standards
