About The Position
Alternatives, Inc. in South Bound Brook, NJ is looking to hire a full-time Behavior Technician to support adults with developmental disabilities. This role offers the opportunity to make a positive difference in the community and uphold the rights of individuals with developmental disabilities to live with dignity and respect. The position involves supporting clients in residential group homes with daily living activities, implementing behavioral plans, teaching new skills, and encouraging community involvement. The company has been providing support services for over 40 years and emphasizes a person-centered philosophy to help clients achieve independence and community integration.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks and a drug screen
- Clear tuberculosis (TB) screening
- Ability to pass and maintain required trainings such as CPR/first aid, medication administration, and positive behavioral support training
- Basic computer skills
- Compassionate
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities is preferred
Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living such as administering medication, cooking meals, performing personal hygiene, and transportation to medical appointments.
- Assist in the implementation of individual behavioral plans.
- Teach new skills and help clients achieve goals using effective teaching and mentoring techniques.
- Encourage client interests and drive them to community outings and recreational activities based on individual preferences and behavioral plans.
- Report any concerns about client health and safety.
- Keep documentation accurate and up-to-date.
