About The Position

This position can be based in Harrison or Mountain Home, AR. This position would start at the end of July before the 26-27 School year begins and works 10 months in a year, furloughed during spring break, summer break, Thanksgiving break and Christmas break. In the role of Mental Health Behavioral Technician, you will work closely with the Mental Health Specialist, teachers, and families to implement behavior support strategies, promote social-emotional development, and assist children experiencing behavioral or emotional challenges. Your work will help ensure every child can fully participate and succeed in the classroom.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children ages 0–5, preferably in an early childhood or Head Start setting.
  • Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, and positive behavior support strategies.
  • Strong observation, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations using sensitivity and cultural competence.
  • Ability to travel throughout the six-county service area to support classrooms as needed.
  • Successful completion of Criminal Background and Child Maltreatment Registry Checks as required by state licensing and Head Start regulations.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification required.

  • Intensive Conscious Discipline Training Certificate must be obtained within the first 12 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to children exhibiting social-emotional or behavioral challenges.
  • Assist with implementing individualized behavior support plans.
  • Model and promote positive behavior guidance strategies consistent with Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Support children in developing self-regulation, coping, and social skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers to create positive, supportive classroom environments.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback on behavioral strategies and interventions.
  • Assist with social-emotional learning activities and routines.
  • Document behavioral incidents, interventions, and child progress.
  • Support family engagement by sharing resources and strategies related to children's social-emotional development.
  • Work collaboratively with Family Advocates and multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistent support across home and school environments.
  • Maintain confidential records and adhere to all program policies and procedures.
