Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Valid driver license must be maintained.
  • One (1) year previous experience in a Psychiatric facility preferred.
  • One (1) year experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Intellectual Disabilities preferred.
  • Devereux has a zero-tolerance policy for abuse and maintains policies and procedures to systematically reduce the risk of abuse to occur in our organization.
  • Devereux fosters a culture of reporting abuse, and will cooperate with the authorities to the fullest extent possible.

Responsibilities

  • Helping children overcome challenges in learning, problem solving, impulse control, judgement, communication, social interaction, and adaptive functioning (activities of daily living).
  • Individuals in our program vary in their abilities, with some being non-speaking and having limited interactions and responses to others.
  • Some may not be toilet trained requiring staff to change diapers and pull ups.
  • Challenging behaviors that are encountered include hitting, biting, kicking, scratching, and pinching.
  • Children also struggle with managing their emotions.
  • Most of the children in our care have emotional and behavioral challenges and engage in physical aggression.
  • Some children who utilize words to communicate, engage in verbal aggression.
  • Create individualized treatment and education plans that leverage the strengths of each child while addressing their specific behaviors and teaching them skills.
