About The Position

Joplin Schools is looking for a Behavior Interventionist to assist in a special education classroom for Communication, Behavior, Social Skills (CBSS). This position involves working with students who have significant behaviors or autism. Extensive training will be provided by the district. The applicant may work 1-1 with a student or assist with small group lessons and collect data on all programs. The applicant will collaborate closely with the classroom teacher, a behavior consultant, and a behavior technician on student goals, behavior intervention plans, and the implementation of daily schedules. The role requires the applicant to be a team player with great communication skills, able to attend to students' personal needs, work with nonverbal students, and be willing to learn ABA applied behavior analysis techniques. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with experience with students with Autism and positive behavioral support.

Requirements

  • Must have 60 college hours or have passed the Para Assessment (MEGA).
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Ability to take care of personal needs of students.
  • Ability to work with nonverbal students.
  • Willingness to learn ABA applied behavior analysis techniques.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Document and keep records.
  • Maintain logs and journals.
  • Assist students with motor or mobility limitations.
  • Maintain the structure of the classroom.
  • Follow classroom activities and lessons as set by the teacher.
  • Prepare and clean up snacks.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.
