About The Position

Joplin Schools is seeking a Behavior Interventionist to assist in a special education classroom focused on Communication, Behavior, Social Skills (CBSS). This role involves working with students who exhibit significant behaviors or have autism. The district will provide extensive training. Responsibilities include one-on-one support, assisting with small group lessons, and collecting data on student programs. The Behavior Interventionist will collaborate closely with the classroom teacher, a behavior consultant, and a behavior technician on student goals, behavior intervention plans, and the implementation of daily schedules. The ideal candidate will be a team player with strong communication skills, capable of attending to students' personal needs, working with nonverbal students, and learning Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques.

Requirements

  • Must have 60 college hours or have passed the Para Assessment (MEGA).
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Ability to take care of personal needs of students.
  • Ability to work with nonverbal students.
  • Willingness to learn ABA applied behavior analysis techniques.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in a special education classroom for Communication, Behavior, Social Skills (CBSS).
  • Work with students with significant behaviors or autism.
  • Provide one-on-one support to a student.
  • Assist with small group lessons.
  • Collect data on all student programs.
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher, behavior consultant, and behavior technician on student goals, behavior intervention plans, and daily schedules.
  • Attend to personal needs of students.
  • Work with nonverbal students.
  • Learn and implement ABA applied behavior analysis techniques.
  • Support students through assigned tasks.
  • Read aloud to individual or small groups of students.
  • Assist with lifting or transferring students.
  • Assist with personal hygiene, including diapering and toilet training.
  • Documentation and record keeping.
  • Maintain logs and journals.
  • Assist students with motor or mobility limitations.
  • Maintain structure of the classroom.
  • Follow classroom activities and lessons as set by the teacher.
  • Prepare snacks and clean up.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.
