About The Position

Under the supervision of the Site Administration and Program Specialists, this role provides individualized behavioral support strategies and techniques. The Behavior Intervention Aide assists instructional personnel in reinforcing behavior expectations to individual or small groups of students in an assigned classroom or other learning environment. This position involves collecting and maintaining data on student behavior, performing a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for certificated instructional personnel, and attending and participating in student progress meetings. This is an open recruitment, and the eligibility list will be used to hire substitutes and fill future vacancies for the 2026/2027 school year. The examination process includes supplemental questions, a written job-related examination, and a qualifications appraisal interview.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school and two years experience working with children with special needs.
  • Knowledge of techniques used in controlling and motivating students.
  • Knowledge of behavior intervention modifications, techniques, strategies, plans, procedures and goals.
  • Knowledge of First Aid and CPR procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
  • Knowledge of problems and concerns of students with emotional disorders, learning disabilities, and behavior disorders.
  • Ability to assist with instruction and related activities in a classroom or assigned learning environment.
  • Ability to use appropriate student behavior management strategies.
  • Ability to learn teacher-developed behavioral strategies that increase student independence, motivation, and self-esteem.
  • Ability to work with students in Special Education that may become combative.
  • Ability to effectively assist teachers in responding to students' emergencies.
  • Ability to run after and gently, but firmly, restrain students attempting to leave the classroom or school grounds.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently with little direction as needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to apply basic first aid techniques and practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality about all personal information, assessment results, and other records concerning students and their families.
  • Ability to use patience and tact in working with students.
  • Ability to perform simple and repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to maintain consistent, punctual, and regular attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Implement positive behavior intervention strategies for students.
  • Implement and model identified behavioral techniques including positive behavior interventions and reinforcement strategies as identified by the teacher.
  • Observe and assist in emergency situations involving aggressive or uncontrolled behavior of identified students in accordance with approved Crisis Preventative Intervention (CPI) procedures as trained.
  • Assist students with performing and developing proper social behavior.
  • Attend periodic and special training and in-services related to behavior interventions and the instructional programs as relevant.
  • Participate as a member of a team supporting students' progress and behavior intervention plans.
  • Tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
  • Monitor and oversee student drills, practices, and assignments in various subjects.
  • Assist with the implementation of lesson plans.
  • Redirect student behavior according to established techniques and procedures.
  • Provide positive behavior interventions.
  • Perform a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for certificated instructional personnel.
  • Collect and maintain data on student behavior.
  • Attend and participate in student progress meetings.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
