About The Position

The Before and After School Leader assists the program director in planning and implementing the child care program, developing and promoting good community relations with school and community clientele, and preparing and implementing quality programming with the director and/or assistant director. The position works directly with students, helps maintain their safety, and supports before- and after-school care and full-day programming.

The role follows and enforces Colorado Department of Early Childhood licensing requirements; communicates with parents, students, school and district staff, and co-workers; assists with daily lesson plans and enrichment activities; helps maintain and repair equipment and supplies; and creates and implements activities and field trips for full-day programming. The leader attends required professional development trainings and monthly staff meetings and performs other duties as assigned. This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting.
• Demonstrate ability to work with children and meet at least one of these qualifications: at least three months (455 hours) of verified experience caring for and supervising four or more unrelated children over age four; or a current Early Childhood Professional Credential Level I or higher, version 3.0, as determined by the Department using its Early Childhood Professional Credential 3.0 Worksheet.
• Complete at least 15 clock hours of training each year, from June 1 through May 31.
• Knowledge of most aspects of childcare.
• Ability to develop and use appropriate discipline procedures.
• Some leadership and management skill.
• Ability to make appropriate decisions and solve problems effectively.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain it within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Follow and enforce all Colorado Department of Early Childhood licensing requirements.
• Work directly with students, actively supervising and engaging with them while they are in the program.
• Communicate with parents, students, school staff, district staff, and co-workers.
• Maintain safe conditions for students and staff.
• Promote and market before- and after-school care and full-day programming.
• Attend and participate in professional development trainings required by licensing and the district.
• Assist with implementing quality lesson plans for each operating day and may assist in creating lesson plans.
• Assist with maintenance, proper storage, and repair of equipment and supplies.
• Contribute ideas for enrichment activities, projects, and program quality.
• Create and implement activities and field trips for full-day programming.
• Attend monthly program staff meetings as required by the director.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
