The purpose of a Site Leader is to manage site level before/after school site, activities, and employees according to program procedures while providing a safe, secure, and structured instructional environment. Requirements

  • Meets the Iowa Department of Human Services site supervisor qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Have, or be able to obtain, current adult and child CPR and First Aid Certification with AED training within the designated timeline

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience with children
  • Certified teacher or Early Childhood Education Degree
  • Previous experience with project management, leadership, mentoring/coaching children

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, evaluate, and coach Before & After School Program site staff and substitutes.
  • Assist the Manager in developing, implementing, and evaluating practices and procedures to improve the Before & After School Program.
  • Communicate program expectations and procedures clearly, effectively, and in a positive manner to employees and students.
  • Assist with implementation and coaching/modeling of academic, enrichment, and recreational curriculum/programs; actively participate and engage in activities with students; not just supervise or observe.
  • Maintain a continuing program of personal professional development, including active participation in required trainings and meetings to improve program quality and ensure compliance with Iowa Department of Human Services minimum standards.
  • Actively implement program initiatives and new learning, as required.
  • Administer quality Before & After School Program site while adhering to District policy, program procedures, and Iowa Department of Human Services Minimum Standards.
  • Firm understanding of District and program policy and procedures, and Iowa Department of Human Services minimum standards, to maintain student safety and security, respond appropriately to parent inquiries/concerns, and supervise employees.
  • Accurately compile and maintain required site documentation.
  • Submit required reports to Manager by established deadlines.
  • Demonstrate responsible control over assigned program resources.
  • Ensure materials and supplies are available.
  • Performed other duties as assigned by the Manager.
  • Develop and maintain an effective level of communication with appropriate personnel, including program employees, district administrators, and the program manager.
  • Present a positive image of the program while providing exemplary customer care and ensure program procedures are followed by all assignees.
  • Prepare high-quality, hands-on, engaging, and age-appropriate curriculum, when necessary.
  • Assist employees in adapting instructional activities to assist and meet the needs of students.
  • Assist with special event programming, field trips, and guest speakers.
  • Promote Before & After School Program services and recruit students to maintain program enrollment.
  • Monitor Before & After School Program facility maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Attend work regularly, routinely, and on time.
  • Maintain open communications with parents and customers while providing exemplary customer care.
  • Maintain confidentiality of personnel and student information and records.
  • Successfully implement and model positive student behavior management techniques.
  • Establish a positive, supportive, and working relationship with employees.
  • Attend Required Professional Development: Staff Orientation and Training – as scheduled
  • Attend monthly site leadership and team meetings as scheduled, potentially outside of regular program hours
  • Supervise and engage large groups of students ages 5–12 in a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
  • Maintain a positive and effective system of discipline that motivates students and supports their social-emotional development.
  • Provide direct supervision and support to multiple levels of staff, ensuring consistent implementation of program goals and procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills when working with students, families, staff, and administrators.
  • Read, interpret, and implement lesson plans and curriculum activities aligned with program objectives.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions, taking initiative and performing complex tasks independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills by managing materials, schedules, and responsibilities efficiently.
  • Balance multiple priorities and complete tasks on time in a fast-paced, dynamic program setting.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally through both written and verbal means with students, staff, and families.
  • Adapt to new situations and challenges with a flexible, growth-oriented mindset.
  • Ensure consistent and accurate implementation of all program procedures and safety protocols.
