About The Position

The YMCA of Southwest Florida is expanding its Before & After School Care program into 4 new elementary schools and is building a team to bring energy, creativity, and leadership to these sites. This role offers opportunities for individuals at all levels, from those just starting to work with children to those ready to lead a team and manage a site. The position involves creating a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. It's described as a pathway for growth within the YMCA, with opportunities to advance into Site Coordinator, Program Director, and other full-time leadership roles.

Requirements

  • Must be 18+ years old (21+ for higher-level leadership responsibilities)
  • Experience working with children preferred (school, camp, childcare, sports, etc.)
  • Leadership or supervisory experience is a plus (for advanced roles)
  • Ability to pass background screening and meet YMCA/DCF requirements
  • CPR/First Aid (or willingness to obtain)

Responsibilities

  • Lead fun, age-appropriate activities like games, crafts, sports, and enrichment
  • Build meaningful relationships with students and families
  • Support children’s social, emotional, and physical development
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment at all times
  • Help create structure, routines, and a positive group dynamic
  • Oversee daily site operations and program flow (for experienced candidates)
  • Support or lead staff, ensuring activities are organized and engaging (for experienced candidates)
  • Communicate with families and school partners (for experienced candidates)
  • Assist with planning special events, spirit days, and family engagement opportunities (for experienced candidates)
  • Ensure program quality, safety standards, and licensing compliance (for experienced candidates)
