About The Position

St. Mary Elementary School is seeking an energetic and dedicated Before & After School Coordinator to lead our vibrant program for the 2026-2027 school year! This role involves creating a safe, enriching environment for children, nurturing their growth, learning, and fun before and after the school bell rings. The program operates Monday through Friday, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at St. Mary Elementary School. The mission of Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools is to form a community of faith and learning by promoting a Catholic way of life through Gospel values and academic excellence. Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to effectively make known the Catholic Church’s teachings through the varied ministry activities expected of this position.
  • Willingness and ability to act as an outstanding personal witness to the Catholic faith and religion by living both one’s professional and personal life in accordance with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, as embodied in the various documents of the Roman Catholic Church, including, without limitation, the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church
  • Coordinator must meet one of the following requirements per SD DSS licensing rules: Have a bachelor’s degree in a field of education or human development, Have a two-year degree in early childhood education, Have a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or comparable credential, as determined by the department, Hold certification in a specific child learning philosophy and have at least one year of experience in a child care setting, Have a child development technician diploma, Have four years of experience in a center or school age program

Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission of Bishop O † Gorman Catholic Schools
  • Provide and maintain a safe environment for children
  • Complete the weekly snack order
  • Plan, organize, and order supplies for engaging activities
  • Manage and organize daily activities for children ages 3-12
  • Prepare sign in/out sheets and manage student schedules and pickup changes
  • Coordinate staff scheduling to ensure ratios set by the Department of Social Services are met
  • Provide staff with list of students and supplies that are needed
  • Maintain employee training records
  • Attend BASC Coordinator meetings to review operations, policies, plans, concerns, etc.
  • Report concerns to Principal immediately
  • Complete the required training
  • Maintain relationships and effective communication with parents
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality at all times
  • Foster positive relationships and teamwork among staff and students by maintaining good rapport and managing conflicts
  • Follow Department of Social Service licensing guidelines and maintain required documentation/paperwork for easy access if needed by the state or central office
  • Successfully prepare and complete inspections with the Department of Social Services
  • Facilitate emergency drills and educate staff and students on proper procedures
  • Provide childcare coverage if staffing is not adequate
  • Perform various duties as assigned
