Before/After Care Counselor - Valrico Lake Advantage Academy
About The Position
The Before/After Care Counselor will supervise and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated by the Aftercare Director. This role involves taking attendance, following a provided schedule and curriculum, and creating a conducive and creative learning environment appropriate for the students' maturity level. The counselor will prepare and execute activities, assist with snack distribution and cleanup, and encourage positive student behavior and classroom standards. They are responsible for student safety, protecting staff, equipment, materials, and facilities, and assisting the administration in implementing policies. Maintaining a professional attitude, participating in dismissal procedures with strict ID verification, and attending staff meetings and training are also key duties.
Requirements
- A minimum of one to five years related experience
- High School diploma or equivalency
- Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Organized, energetic, innovative and professional.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with strong verbal and written English communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Supervises and instructs assigned classes in the locations and the times designated by the Aftercare Director.
- Takes attendance.
- Follows the provided schedule and curriculum program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students to which they are assigned.
- Creates an environment that is conducive to learning in a creative way and is appropriate to the maturity level of the students to which they are assigned.
- Prepares activities for the classes assigned and shows evidence of preparation for these activities on a weekly basis.
- Assists in the distribution of snacks and clean up.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Maintains a professional attitude at all times.
- Participates in dismissal procedures at the end of Aftercare, ensuring that each student leaves with the appropriate adult. (ID is REQUIRED even if they know the person picking up and must be verified with the pick-up list).
- Attends all staff meetings and recommended training programs as required.
- Supervises all activities to ensure safety at all times.
