About The Position

The Beer/Wine Leader is responsible for managing the department by adjusting orders to meet customer demands while maintaining freshness and minimizing shrink. This role promotes excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer-focused behavior with associates, including smiling, greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving issues promptly. The leader focuses on continuous improvement within the department, operates scanning equipment and cash registers, and performs all related checkout procedures accurately and efficiently. They are responsible for maintaining proper security measures and cash drawer accounting, scheduling department associates, determining work assignments, and conducting on-the-job training. The Beer/Wine Leader recognizes and rewards associate performance, follows all store and legal guidelines regarding alcohol sales, verifies deliveries against invoices, and contacts vendors as needed. They inspect products upon delivery, enforce department practices for receiving, dating, and stocking to ensure quality and proper rotation, and remove out-of-code items. The role involves applying proper stocking techniques, ensuring merchandise is in saleable condition with correct prices and signs, and storing excess merchandise according to backroom organization guidelines and 5S standards. They follow company guidelines for merchandising and utilize incremental displays to drive sales. The position may involve unloading deliveries, operating power or hand jacks, and assisting with baling cardboard. The Beer/Wine Leader is responsible for general sanitation in the department, following cleaning schedules and guidelines to ensure work areas, equipment, counters, and display cases are well-maintained, clean, and meet health and OSHA requirements. They dispose of trash properly, ensure smooth function of the department and store by cooperating with co-workers and supervisors, and continuously improve job performance. Utilization of all company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required. The role may also involve assisting in other departments.

Requirements

  • High school education or general education degree (GED).
  • Preferably two (2) years or more retail grocery experience with one (1) year in a Grocery department.
  • Candidates must be at least 21 years of age to work within the Beer and Wine Cafe.

Responsibilities

  • Manages department by adjusting orders to meet customer demands while maintaining freshness and minimizing shrink.
  • Promotes excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer focused behavior with associates.
  • Smiles and greets customers, answers customer questions and helps resolve customer issues promptly in a polite and professional manner.
  • Focuses on continuous improvement in all areas of the department and makes changes to ensure progress.
  • Operates the scanning equipment and cash register.
  • Performs all related check out procedures including properly and efficiently bagging merchandise and placing merchandise in customer’s cart.
  • Maintains accuracy during the transaction, ensuring the customer is charged for all items and appropriate funds are collected.
  • Maintains proper security measures and cash drawer accounting procedures, avoiding overages and/or shortages.
  • Schedules all department associates and determines work assignments to effectively utilize their skills and abilities.
  • Regularly conducts on-the-job training efforts for department.
  • Recognizes and rewards associate performance.
  • Follows all store and legal guidelines regarding sale of alcohol, as well as other products at the register.
  • Verifies all deliveries against invoices.
  • Contacts vendors as needed to request product or service to meet customer demands.
  • Inspects all products and supplies upon delivery, noting any shortages or overages.
  • Enforces and follows department practices regarding receiving, dating and stocking product to ensure quality, accuracy and proper rotation.
  • Removes out-of-code items.
  • Applies proper stocking techniques to ensure products are properly located on shelves, rotated and within easy customer reach.
  • Ensures merchandise is in saleable condition with correct prices and signs.
  • Stores excess merchandise according to backroom organization guidelines and 5S standards.
  • Follows company guidelines for merchandising product and utilizes incremental displays to drive sales.
  • May unload deliveries through operation of a power jack or hand jack if properly trained.
  • May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties (if properly trained).
  • Responsible for general sanitation in the department.
