About The Position

The United States Naval Academy's high-volume barber/beauty shop is seeking talented Beautician/Barbers to service over 4,000 students on its campus in Annapolis, MD. This role requires daytime availability for at least 3 days a week, including Fridays, with 8-hour shifts. The position involves preparing, conditioning, and cutting the hair of male and female midshipmen and other authorized patrons, while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Responsibilities include shampooing, styling, shaping, waving, straightening, cutting, and curling hair, as well as performing scalp treatments. The incumbent must also maintain a clean working area, sterilized tools, and operate laundry equipment. A minimum pace of one haircut every fifteen minutes for men's hair and one every forty-five minutes for women's hair is expected. The role requires continuous use of arms, hands, fingers, and thumbs with dexterity, and involves standing, sitting, bending, reaching, and lifting light items.

Requirements

Experience performing Beautician/Barber duties, which may include cutting and shaping all types/textures of hair, performing scalp treatments, shampooing and styling hair.
Satisfactory completion from a certified school of Barbering or Cosmetology, or ability to obtain a state Barber or Cosmetology license within 30 days.
Experience as a Beautician/Barber.
Beautician/Barber experience with all types and textures of hair.
Barbering/Beautician experience with military hairstyles.
Experience using shears, electric clippers and trimmers.
Experience in performing hair care treatments.
Ability to stand, sit, bend, reach and lift light items.
Continual use of arms, hands and set of fingers and thumb manipulated with great dexterity.

Nice To Haves

Ability to perform protective hairstyles (braiding) and/or basic updos.

Responsibilities

Prepares, conditions, and cuts the hair of male and female midshipmen and other authorized patrons.
Shampoos, styles, shapes, waves, straightens, cuts, and curls patron’s hair.
Cuts and shapes hair into various styles to suit the patron.
Performs scalp treatments as requested.
Works on straight, wavy, curly or kinky hair and develops an appropriate style.
Checks the condition of the patron's skin, scalp, and hair for disorders that may interfere with services or require medical attention.
Keeps working areas of the Barber/Beauty Shop clean.
Maintains tools and equipment in a sterilized and sanitary condition.
Prepares needed tools and accessories for patron services.
Operates an automatic washer/dryer.
Maintains a minimum pace of one haircut every fifteen minutes for men's hair and one every forty-five minutes for women's hair.
