Responsibilities

  • Starting a Beam: Zero the yardage meter and the poundage meter. Pull the yarn ends down so they will wrap around the empty beam. Roll the empty beam under the warper arms and then lower the ARMS over the Beam. Insert Safety Pins. Wrap ends around the Beam and lay the ends of the yarn between the beam and warper drum, check ends for correct spacing. Push the "START" button to begin Warper. Center the Beam using the adjuster that moves the Beam from side to side if the beam is touching one side of the Warper drum or the other.
  • Setting Up a Beam Set: Adjust yardage meter to run the poundage required per Beam.
  • Ending a Beam: After the weight reaches the pounds required per Beam, the Warper will stop automatically if the yardage meter has been preset and reaches the point of zero on the counter. Tape the ends at the free rolling bar. Run the beam enough so the tape is on the other side of the ends. Tape the ends again on top of the first strip of tape. Put the tape on the Beam with adhesive side up, and stick ends of tape to the side of the Beam. Run Beams around on rotation and tape other side of yarn. Pull the ends through the Warper and cut, then tie the ends back out of the way. Gather the ends into two sections and tuck under some ends on the Beams. Tie the tail into a slip knot. Put Beam information on each Beam before doffing.
  • Mending Yarn: After warping the 1st or 2nd beam, gather four or five packages for mending yarn. Check the lot number and write on a piece of paper (Tag). Tape the packages together with the tag visible. Put the mending yarn in the holding bins behind the warpers.
  • Quality Control: Check the tension of the yarn, anytime yarn is ran too tight, it causes streaks once the yarn is tufted. Continually check the beam for off color such as wrong yarn lot. Make sure yarn is warped evenly and not building up on one side or the other. Adjustments Should be done by using the spacing guide. Push the spacing guide left or right or use the End cranks to make the yarn run wider or narrower.
  • End-Breaks: If the Warper does not stop automatically, stop as soon as possible. Locate the end out on the Beam. Next locate the end out at the Header and blow yarn back.
  • Paperwork: Fill out the Warping Order with Beam Number/Start Yards, Stop Yards/Shift, Total Yards/Pounds. Record Total Yards and Pound Column at the end of the Beam Set. List the Warper Tender and the Creelers names on this sheet. After the order is completed, record the date and shift at the bottom of the sheet.
