About The Position

BCB Vocal Arts Department Communications Assistant has a high level of responsibility, a broad scope, and requires specialized technical skills. Students with strong design skills including knowledge of design principals, familiar with HTML and CSS, responsive design, cross-platform testing, professional design software (Adobe CC), Mailchimp, and Google Forms, are strongly encouraged to apply. The Communications Assistant should be responsible, proactive, able to take initiative and direction, patient, courteous and troubleshoot effectively. The ideal candidate will also be familiar with the Boston Conservatory at Berklee Voice Department events, offerings and community stakeholders.

Requirements

This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Strong Organizational and Time Management Skills - ability to independently complete multiple tasks while maintaining quality and attention to detail
  • Strong set of IT skills required. The Vocal Arts Assistant has to build and test email newsletters with rich content that displays correctly across different devices and email clients. This requires competencies including but not limited to: HTML and CSS, responsive design, cross-platform testing, professional design software (Adobe CC), Mailchimp, and Google Forms.
  • Strong design skills, including knowledge of design principles (typography, color theory, hierarchy), the ability to adhere to brand standards, and making aesthetic judgments with minimal guidance. These are skills that a student employee with no prior design experience cannot simply pick up on the job, but must already be cultivated prior to starting.
  • Strong writing skills. The employee will often be asked to write short announcement drafts for approval by the chair, for dissemination to the department.
  • The ability to transition seamlessly from student to employee to best assist the College’s faculty, staff, students and visitors.
  • The ability to work as a team member and take direction on tasks and projects
