This is a Full-time position at Hospice of Midland's Outreach Program - Rays of Hope Children's Grief Centre. Rays of Hope is a safe, neutral place for children ages 4-18 to do the work of grief. Children who have experienced significant loss due to death, separation, divorce, incarceration, deployment, or foster care are encouraged to participate. Through facilitated peer support groups, children share experiences, use creative arts as tools of expression, and acquire coping skills to work through the challenging issues that accompany grief. The Expressive Arts Assistant is responsible for supporting the Rays of Hope Director in the ongoing operation of the ROH program. This is a non-exempt position.

Requirements

  • Must have at least a High School diploma or the equivalency.
  • Must pass a drug test, criminal check, and have a satisfactory driving history.
  • Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order.
  • Must have excellent communication skills in reading, writing and speaking English; Spanish a plus.
  • Must have good general office and telephone skills.
  • Must have good computer skills and knowledge of programs used by the agency.
  • Must have good knowledge of office equipment.
  • Must maintain confidentiality in all aspects of Hospice of Midland care.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize projects, be organized and flexible.
  • Must be punctual, reliable and available when scheduled, which may include evening hours.
  • Must be able to manage and supervise volunteers.
  • Must have at least one year’s experience supervising children in a professional or volunteer basis.
  • Organization personnel are expected to participate in appropriate education as may be requested by their immediate supervisor. In addition, organization personnel are expected to accept personal responsibility for other educational activities to enhance job-related skills and abilities. All personnel must attend mandatory educational programs.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and assists with intake by providing child tours. Ensures that appropriate paperwork is in place for intake and programs.
  • Conducts intake in the absence of or when requested by the ROH Director.
  • Provides callers with appropriate community resources.
  • Reviews and makes suggestions for revisions of the program curriculum. Collaborates with the ROH Director to develop new curriculum.
  • Confirms attendance of participants and volunteers. Follows up with families on program absences.
  • Provides information about services and conducts tours of the facility.
  • Assists the ROH Director and Program Coordinator with community outreach.
  • Uses the expressive arts to meet the unique needs of ROH families.
  • Facilitates support groups, including school groups, as needed.
  • Oversees the music room and activities. Responsible for inventory of musical instruments.
  • Assists the ROH Program Coordinator with Creative Wednesday curriculum.
  • Promotes Hospice of Midland and ROH in the community.
  • Supports the Hospice of Midland and ROH Mission and Values.
  • Completes other duties and projects as assigned.
