Responsibilities

  • Supervises hourly employees in the performance of their duties in the department in conformance with applicable company policy and procedures, as well as, provisions of the Labor Agreement.
  • Spots trucks and railroad cars when loads arrive and ensures equipment is operating safely.
  • Adheres to company policies and procedures, safety regulations, EPA, and OSHA requirements while maintaining productivity standards.
  • Conducts safety inspections of area and conducts daily and monthly safety meetings regarding hygiene and safety procedures.
  • Reports production flow and operational procedures to Battery Wrecker Manager.
  • Assures that sumps are maintained in non-overflow condition.
  • Assures that secondary containment areas are free of cracks, gaps, or corrosion to ensure any spills will be adequately contained.
  • Assures waste or chemical containers are in good condition without splits, cracks, corrosion, severe dents, or leaks, and assures that when moving waste and chemical containers with forklift, care is taken not to puncture or squeeze with forks.
  • Assures that wastes are disposed of properly, not on the ground or in open or improper containers.
  • Assure that materials are properly stacked to prevent spills.
  • Assures proper waste labels are affixed and information is legible and complete with proper start dates and visible from aisle for inspection.
  • Assures onsite generated hazardous waste is not held more beyond the required limit.
  • Assures waste container lids are able to close and be sure they are fastened.
  • Assures wastes or other materials are not piled on top of waste containers.
  • Assures that waste or chemical container lids are kept closed unless adding or removing contents to prevent spills.
  • Assures that leaking damaged or capless batteries are processed immediately or placed inside a recovery drum for later processing and assures that spills are cleaned up immediately.
  • Assures that materials are contained and cleaned up to minimize spread until repairs are made.
  • Assure that equipment is thoroughly pressure washed to remove any residues and record the cleaning on trip ticket per NESHAPS SOP, and clean up any materials tracked outdoors by equipment.
  • Ensures equipment or products are dust free before storing outdoors.
  • Assure that items designated for removal such as used tires, steelcases, non-lead scrap metal, etc., are properly cleaned before moving outside for disposal.
  • Assures that spills of oil, hydraulic fluid, chemicals, slag, dross, diesel, wrecker mud, etc is cleaned up as the spill occurs and put into appropriate containers.
  • Reports to appropriate personnel for removal or cleanup any spills and rainwater accumulation in secondary containment areas.
  • Reports excessively dusty pavement and be sure it is washed down or call for an extra run of the sweeper.
  • Assure required aisle space is maintained for inspections and access of emergency equipment.
  • Report missing or damaged environmental signs and see to it that they are replaced.
  • Report materials as they are used so as to keep materials in stock.
  • Ensure backup is assigned to complete inspection if primary inspector is absent and ensure the deficiencies are noted and corrective measures documented on the forms.
  • Other duties as assigned.
