Battery Hardware Technician

DoorDash USASan Francisco, CA

About The Position

DoorDash Labs is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Battery Hardware Technician to join our hardware engineering team. In this role, you will be the hands-on expert responsible for supporting the development, prototyping, and validation of our next-generation battery systems. You will bridge the gap between design and reality by building prototype battery packs, executing critical testing procedures, and managing day-to-day operations of our battery lab. If you thrive in a fast-paced R&D environment and love working directly with cutting-edge energy storage systems, we want you on our team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on experience working directly with battery cells (lithium-ion preferred) and assembling battery packs.
  • Proven experience with precision resistance welding, spot welding, and high-quality soldering techniques for electronics and busbars.
  • Strong proficiency in reading electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and wiring diagrams. Experience routing and crimping HV/LV connectors and harnesses.
  • Experience using leak testing equipment, digital multimeters, insulation testers (Hi-Pot), and standard hand/power tools.
  • Deep understanding of the safety hazards associated with lithium-ion cells and high-voltage systems, with a track record of maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe workspace.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with battery management systems (BMS) and basic PCB troubleshooting/rework of components.
  • Familiarity with battery cyclers (e.g. Chroma) and environmental chambers.
  • Prior experience in basic CAD (Fixtures etc), rapid prototyping or R&D environment (robotics, automotive, or aerospace).

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, rework, and modify prototype battery packs and modules from the ground up, working directly with battery cells, modules, connector assemblies and printed circuit boards (PCBs).
  • Perform precision spot welding, resistance welding, and soldering to interconnect cells and integrate Low-Voltage (LV) and High-Voltage (HV) wiring harnesses and connectors.
  • Support critical validation tests, including pressure/vacuum leak testing for sealed enclosures, insulation testing, and continuity checks.
  • Own the maintenance, and safety compliance of the battery build and test laboratory. Ensure all equipment is calibrated, standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed, and safety protocols for hazardous materials/high-voltage are strictly enforced.
  • Set up, monitor, and manage battery test equipment (cyclers, environmental chambers, data loggers) and document build processes and test anomalies clearly for the engineering team.
