About The Position

This role serves as a technical expert for the development of battery cell assembly processes, including the development and approval of cell assembly equipment specifications. The position provides technical leadership and coaching to team members and stakeholders. Key responsibilities include developing battery cell assembly processes, engineering specifications, and documentation. The engineer will also develop and implement the Bill of Process and Bill of Equipment. A significant part of the role involves interfacing with Joint Venture partners to support the launch of battery cell manufacturing facilities and working with machinery and equipment suppliers on procurement, design, build, validation, and start-up of cell assembly equipment. Additionally, the role focuses on optimizing the cell manufacturing line layout for assembly processes, supporting construction teams with building and facility requirements, and ensuring compliance with GM safety specifications and equipment safety reviews. The engineer will develop assembly strategies for next-generation battery cell technology and interface with leadership to support the development of battery cell manufacturing strategies. Approximately 25% travel is required, both domestically and internationally. The position follows a hybrid work policy with 3 days in-office and 2 days remote, requiring the ability to report to a local office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a GMIO GPS Manufacturing Engineering, or related occupation.
  • Five (5) years of experience in Lean manufacturing approaches and tools.
  • Five (5) years of experience in APQP & PFMEA, Process Control Plans, Bill of Process (BoP) and Bill of Equipment (BoE).
  • Five (5) years of experience in problem-solving methodologies including Shainin, DFSS, and Red-X.
  • Five (5) years of experience in Global Manufacturing System (GMS).
  • Three (3) years of experience in high-speed assembly equipment used in battery cell manufacturing lines.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Statistical Process Control and Process capability.
  • Two (2) years of experience in installation, debug and start-up of high volume assembly equipment.
  • Two (2) years of experience in Global Propulsion Systems Development Process (GPDP).
  • Two (2) years of experience in Propulsion Systems Quality and Readiness Review (SPQRR).
  • Two (2) years of experience in Project Management.

Responsibilities
