About The Position

The Bather provides comprehensive bathing services for dogs, completes bathing and spa appointments, and bathes and prepares dogs for groomers as directed. The role involves hands-on care for dogs of all sizes and temperaments, communication with pet parents, and maintaining a clean and safe salon environment. Paid on-the-job training is provided, with an advancement path to Lead Bather and/or the Grooming Apprentice program and professional development through mentorship from salon leaders.

Requirements

• No minimum education or formal training is required.
• No prior professional bathing experience is required; paid on-the-job training is provided.
• Demonstrated customer service skills, including being friendly, approachable, cooperative, and flexible.
• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing, with staff, customers, and the public from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, take initiative, prioritize and accurately perform multiple tasks, and meet deadlines amid changing priorities.
• Ability to demonstrate good judgment and decision-making consistently.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Bathe, dry, clip nails, express anal glands, clean ears, and brush and comb dogs so they are clean, dry, and free of dirt, mats, and tangles.
• Assess each dog's eyes, ears, nails, teeth, coat, and skin, and communicate assessment results and health concerns to customers and relevant salon staff.
• Recommend appropriate additional services and products, explain add-on options and benefits, and clearly communicate service fees and product knowledge.
• Prioritize bathing appointments as directed, complete dogs scheduled for haircuts first, adapt to changing salon priorities, and serve walk-in customers in arrival order.
• Greet customers and dogs by name, provide an estimated pick-up time, and follow the GOTHEART strategy during customer check-in.
• Maintain accurate and complete kennel cards, including health, age, aggression, allergy, and requested-service details.
• Keep kenneled pets comfortable and safe, ensure they have access to water, and check them hourly for signs of stress.
• Sanitize and vacuum the work area after each bath; maintain a safe, clean, hazard-free salon and complete daily and weekly cleaning lists.
• Respond appropriately to personnel or dog injuries and help ensure prompt and appropriate medical care as needed.
• Communicate professionally and in a timely manner with customers and co-workers.
• Perform other salon-related duties as assigned by the Store Manager or Lead Groomer.
