In partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, this internship offers a variety of field and office work opportunities to provide the intern with a diverse breadth of experience applicable to future conservation-related positions. The intern will primarily focus on the study of bat acoustics, utilizing specialized equipment to record echolocation calls above human hearing. This data provides insights into bat species' locations, behavior, distribution, and activity. The role involves deploying acoustic detectors in Minnesota and Wisconsin, analyzing collected data, reviewing previous project data, learning about the North American Bat Monitoring Program (NABat), and studying the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Bat Survey Guidelines. Additionally, the intern may participate in other field surveys, including endangered bumble bee surveys and general monitoring efforts in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
