About The Position

The New Orleans JCC is seeking a friendly and knowledgeable basketball referee for part-time evening shifts on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 pm. This role involves officiating YABL (5 on 5 full court) on Mondays and Mellow ball (3 on 3 or 4 on 4 half court) on Wednesdays.

Requirements

• Familiarity with basketball rules and the modified rules used by the JCC
• Ability to communicate with players/statistician to get games started promptly
• Ability to run for extended amounts of time
• Ability to communicate schedule conflicts with supervisor
• Ability to remain calm in a stressful competitive atmosphere
• Lead by example; follow all NOJCC policies and procedures as defined in the NOJCC Handbook and as directed by Agency leadership
• Basic awareness of Judaism and Jewish cultural norms and traditions

Responsibilities

• Keep everyone safe and the games controlled
• Maintain professionalism and serve as role models
• Wear referee jerseys when working a game
• Open communication with the participants to ensure games start in a timely manner
• Maintain a neutral opinion when officiating games
