We’re currently searching for a BASICS Intervention Specialist to join our Services for Students with Disabilities team in Blacksburg, VA. This role is part of the Hokie Wellness team, a department centered on providing holistic well-being resources to the Virginia Tech community. The position reports to the Assistant Director for Substance Misuse Prevention and is a 1500-hour, non-benefited role. The specialist will use a modified BASICS model to facilitate individual sessions with higher-risk students, both mandated and self-referred. The goal is to explore the role that substances, including alcohol, cannabis, nicotine, and other drugs, may play in their lives and how that impacts their potential. The BASICS model typically involves a series of two conversations using a feedback report to generate discrepancies between a person’s substance use and their other goals, with Motivational Interviewing used to enhance the person’s drive for behavioral change. The role offers an hourly rate of $21.50, access to VT discounts, and the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement after training. Employees are expected to work within the hours of 10:00 am - 6:00 pm.
