About The Position

The Bartender is responsible for delivering exceptional food and beverage service while creating a welcoming and memorable experience for guests at Hyatt Regency Indianapolis. This position prepares and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, maintains a clean and organized bar, and provides knowledgeable recommendations that enhance the guest experience. The Bartender plays an important role in Hyatt Regency Indianapolis' commitment to hospitality by providing attentive service, maintaining responsible alcohol service practices, and working collaboratively with restaurant, banquet, and hotel teams to ensure every guest receives outstanding service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous bartending or restaurant experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of beer, wine, spirits, cocktails, and responsible alcohol service.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Basic math and cash handling skills.
  • Food Handler Certification and/or Alcohol Server Permit, if required by state or local regulations.
  • Must meet the minimum legal age requirement to serve alcoholic beverages.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, stoop, and lift.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to safely operate bar equipment and handle glassware.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and high-volume events.
  • Flexible schedule required based on business needs.
  • Must maintain professional appearance and grooming standards in accordance with Hyatt policies.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of guest and hotel information.
  • Must complete all required Hyatt and hotel training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests promptly and provide friendly, attentive, and professional service throughout their dining experience.
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Recommend cocktails, wine, beer, and food pairings while answering guest questions regarding menu items and ingredients.
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere that reflects Hyatt's commitment to exceptional hospitality.
  • Monitor guest alcohol consumption and serve alcoholic beverages responsibly in accordance with Indiana law and Hyatt policies.
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to Hyatt brand standards and established recipes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of classic cocktails, specialty beverages, wine, beer, and current beverage offerings.
  • Ensure beverage presentation and quality standards are consistently maintained.
  • Prepare garnishes and maintain adequate supplies throughout each shift.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar area throughout each shift.
  • Restock liquor, beer, wine, mixers, glassware, garnishes, and other supplies as needed.
  • Assist with inventory counts and notify leadership of supply shortages.
  • Ensure all equipment is clean, operational, and properly maintained.
  • Accurately process cash, credit card, and room charge transactions.
  • Prepare guest checks and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with hotel procedures.
  • Balance cash drawers and follow established cash handling procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest payment information.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and responsible alcohol service requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with health department regulations and Hyatt standards.
  • Work collaboratively with restaurant, banquet, kitchen, and hotel teams to ensure efficient operations.
  • Assist with opening, closing, and side work duties as assigned.
