About The Position

The Portland Regency Hotel & Spa is looking for a Bartender/Server to join our team! A beautiful Historic Hotel of America located in the heart of Portland's Old Port District. This position requires working three to four days a week, approximately 20-25 hours a week, including nights, days, weekends, and holidays. The primary goal is to professionally greet guests and to sell, prepare, and serve cocktails and light fare in an efficient, friendly, and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratios, and percentages using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • TIPS Certification.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of this organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to all scheduled shifts on time and in full uniform.
  • Punching into the correct department no more than 5 minutes before your shift begins and punching out directly after your shift ends.
  • Acting in a professional manner at all times, providing friendly, courteous, and efficient service.
  • Pouring and serving consistent, quality beverages and cocktails to all guests.
  • Having knowledge of drink recipes and presentation of all drinks offered, and thorough knowledge of products available.
  • Responsible for all cash, credit, and room charge transactions and for the individual bank for your shift.
  • Having knowledge of current and expired packages and gift certificates. All checks must be opened and closed properly, and the correct drop procedures followed.
  • Monitoring all guests’ alcohol consumption and ensuring not to over serve. Having the ability, knowledge, and confidence to curtail any situations involving intoxication promptly and effectively. Not hesitating to call for assistance if warranted.
  • When interacting with a dissatisfied guest, politely apologizing and offering to seek the assistance of a manager if necessary.
  • Maintaining a high level of cleanliness and organization in the Lounge, behind the Bar, and in the back workstation by completing all side work and stocking, as well as daily cleaning duties, all of which are outlined on the daily side work sheets. The Bar is to be left clean, well-stocked, and ready to go for the next shift.
  • Knowing and obeying all Maine State Liquor laws regarding the sale, consumption, and service of alcohol.
  • Assisting in the training of new employees.
  • Practicing safe kitchen procedures when serving food.
  • Becoming proficient with the POS computer system used in the outlets.
  • Ensuring friends are not allowed to “hang out” at the bar unless eating and/or drinking.
  • Keeping conversation professional with staff and personal conversations to a minimum.
  • Attending all meetings scheduled by your manager.
  • Performing any other related duties as assigned by the Department Manager or General Manager.
